My first painting instruction began in South Carolina in 1985. Since then I have lived and studied in many places from Hong Kong to Moscow, Russian and Suva, Fiji. Fun fact: I was the first Westerner to study art at the Central Museum of Kazakhstan in 1995. I have also studied art at Florida Atlantic University, the Gage Academy and with many prominent artist workshops. I have had the opportunity to be mentored by master painters Liana Bennett and Mike Wise. Like many artists, I was first encouraged by an art teacher and so I too teach and share my passion for painting. I paint in both acrylic and oil in both impressionistic and abstract styles.

"I always start my painting process thinking of color. Somewhere in the process I start moving the energy around. It is never my goal to copy what I see but to artistically interpret the feeling of light and color." -- Jackie Gilbert
